To make these puppies, simply roll the
crescent roll dough around slices of apples, then pour a mixture of melted butter
and sugar over them, then empty some Mountain Dew from the box on top of that,
sprinkle it with cinnamon and bake it. And ta da! You have prepared yourself a
crowd-pleasing dessert.
With that little effort for a commendable
sweetener, this recipe definitely made me rethink all of the complex dessert
recipes. What's the point of working in the kitchen for hours if something
semi-homemade does the job?
I will definitely do it again. The cheese
and blueberry filling is probably very good, too. Or maybe a peach ...
If you are preparing it ahead of time,
after baking, pour as much of the sauce in the pan (there will be less) and
store it in a separate bowl. This will prevent the dumplings from becoming a
pasty. When ready to serve, heat the dumplings in the oven for a few minutes
and heat the sauce in the microwave. Serve with a scoop of vanilla bean ice
cream.
