For the cake:

1 box chocolate cake mix

1 cup water

1/2 cup vegetable oil

3 large eggs

For the filling:

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 cups powdered sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

3 tablespoons milk

For the chocolate ganache:

1 cup heavy cream

2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large bowl, mix together the cake mix, water, oil, and eggs until well combined.

Pour the batter into two greased 9-inch round cake pans.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cakes comes out clean.

Remove the cakes from the oven and let cool completely on a wire rack.

For the filling:

In a large bowl, beat the butter until creamy.

Add the powdered sugar and beat until well combined.

Add the vanilla extract and milk and beat until the mixture is smooth and creamy.

For the chocolate ganache:

In a medium saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer.

Remove the pan from the heat and add the chocolate chips. Let the mixture sit for 1-2 minutes to allow the chocolate to melt.

Whisk the mixture until it is smooth and shiny.

To assemble:

Place one of the cooled cakes on a cake plate.

Spread the filling over the top of the cake.

Place the second cake on top of the filling.

Pour the chocolate ganache over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.

Let the cake set for at least 30 minutes before serving.
